December 31, 2008 - a recap

Karthik one of my good friends has narrated how I welcomed 2009. No one could have done a better job.

Mind you folks he remembers this even today when we are about to welcome 2010. I am sure if my parents ever read this they would be in for a surprise.

Thanks Karthik.

December 31, 2008….

It all started when we planned for a get together for the new year eve @ K-117, Tamarac Square, Denver, CO. The invitees were restricted to the minimum and couple of them had Plan A and Plan B

…so if plan A does not work then they will visit K-117. I and Kris, the hero of the Tollywood, started preparing the dinner. We had planned to watch a movie with a Vodka followed by a quite dinner. Chief Guest was Mr. Rajesh Patel, another heart throb from the Sandalwood City. He took the permission from his home ministry and made to K-117 around 9PM. By then, bollywood hunk was already there, Mr. Venkatkrishnan Ramasamy, who was looking confused, as always, and was thinking about the office work. Just imagine..who can do this on new year eve.

The dinner was ready and Kris had already had an appointment (bash) with the other group. He was not able to refuse as he was invited by a group of girls in the community. But he had promised that he will just have a peg with us and move on to the other bash and will be back with an hour..just to show his head in their party...but eventually, he turned out in the morning hours…430AM. Of course..who can stop the chair person of the “PRAJA RAJYAM”..

We all started with a first peg of “Royal Imperia”, a Russian vodka. I and Rajesh were discussing on the movie to be watched…with the starters ready…we had the first cheers at around 10PM. Venkat was relaxing in the recliner…his favorite spot and with his laptop to continue his official work. I and Rajesh settled down on the floor, and decide to stick to “Slumdog Millionaire”. Before that, we were gossiping a lot. Within 10 minutes, we noticed that our Bollywood hunk had gulped the Vodka. Rajesh warned him that its not a safe bet to have it so fast. Venkat wanted to go for the next peg…but we wanted him to wait…Young blood…Generation Next…he did not listen to the super seniors…he went ahead…

By the time we were done with our first round, Venkat was done with his 2nd..and he was claiming that he was intact and very much present…the movie had started…I and Rajesh went for the second and Venkat settled for the third…Kris was dancing with the family group and he was enjoying his party..after all who would want to spend the new year eve with 3 idiots

While the movie was on, it was already 12 in NY and we happened to call the zamindar of AP…Jithendar..akka..Jitu…he was in no mood to listen…he was having a big bash..and he kept on repeating…”Happy New Year”…while this was going on…Venkat had done with his 3rdround in a jiffy….now he was in PANDORA and not in denver…falling down ..now and then…and for him …Taare was Zameer Per..

Adding to climax, Venkat went ahead with Rajesh for a smoke…in spite of our warning…he finished the cigar within a minute….and he started flying in the air…I guess he had already started to see the first look of AVATAR ..by then…

After 15 minutes or so…all of a sudden, he ran to the rest room and locked himself…we heard just sounds…I and Rajesh were taken back..we stopped the movie and asked Venkat to unlock the door…as no one was ready to pay extra for cleaning the floor and bath tub..to the leasing office… J

We forced him to have lime water with salt…and he settled down for a sleep without dinner…I and Rajesh..went ahead with dinner..and still Kris was in no mood to join the 2 idiots…Call came from the home ministry…and Rajesh had to rush back…I settled in recliner…to continue with the movie..Kris was back 430AM and Venkat had..so called dinner with him..after all they were batch mates…

MORAL OF THE STORY –For VENKAT : BE CAREFUL..THIS YEAR…BEFORE TOUCHING ALCHOL…Nevertheless..enjoy…. J

Aal Izz Well….Happy 2010 folks…

Cheers..

Vanity - My favourite Sin

Vanity - Is it a sin or a must marketing strategy to glorify yourself/company to be known to all.

Up In the Air

Another one of George Clooney's jet setting executive guy movie with slapstick comedy. Well the concept is really interesting and is about a jet setting executive who earns his living by firing people out of their jobs. There is no much story to the movie - it just depicts how fucked up the lives of such jet setters are. People derive strength and courage to walk the tight rope from their families but these jet setters have no family no relations to turn to they jus live out of a box - everything they possess can be packed in a suitcase and the airport terminals is their home and they derive a satisfaction, pleasure and pride from the amount of jet miles that they earn during the travel.

This movie might strike a chord with the American audience but nothing much for people from other parts of the world who aren't much affected due to the 2008 economic slowdown.

The movie is a must watch for the dialogue deliveries and physchological analysis and negotiation that the firing agent does leading to the affecting party believe that this firing is a God Send Favour which he/she needs to grab.

The movie has received6 golden globe nominations too which is another reason to reckon watching the movie.

Great Movie Week

These last three days I watched one movie each day in the theaters. Watched Avatar, 3 Idiots and Sherlock Homes. Also watched Rocket Singh last week. All were fun and a must watch movies.

Sherlock Holmes - Watched this yesterday. Good graphics and awesome acting by Robert Downing Jr. Felt really good when realised this movie just launched Prof.Moriarti into the picture (figure of speech) because I am sure there is a sequel to follow. The opening scene where Sherlock saves a girl from the sacrificial altar itself titilates you especially the scene where he hits the henchman after a pre-meditated calculation and thats when u wish that you also had the knowledge (to do a mental calculation) to act that way. I am not trying to write a review so will not write more, just suggest that you should watch it if you haven't yet.

Avatar - This movie has entered my all time favourite list. Coolest graphics ever seen plus the 3-D effect added to the delight. Just imagine the Toruk-Maktur (whatever that largest bird is called) whizzing at you and you ducking from its path and then wrenching your neck to trace the bird's path that just whizzed passed. Good movie for children as its more related to saving the environment from the human greed, but under parental guidance because I believe this movie is a little heavy for children to interpret the message - parents will have to help them out here. I especially like the part where in the NABI are able to make a bond with the animals with the nature around them and are able to feel the vibes - I guess that's what most humans lack - ability to empathize. The starting dialogue titilated me a lot where in Jake says that he joined the marines because he was in search of something that was worth fighting for - Jake found his but many of us are still searching for that thing and for some of us the search never ends. As said earlier not going to write a review - go watch it, get out of the couch and make it a day, its a full paisa wasool movie (worth every penny).

3 Idiots - Awesome entertaining movie the one that jiggles you through out the movie, though every scene is predictable but you will end up loving it. Good paced movie you will never feel bored. Even the names of the characters have been carefully chosen to make you laugh. The movie is based on Chetan Bhagats Five Point Someone. The movie revolves around Rancho (Amir) and his 2 friends (Raju and Farhan). It depicts the journey of these 3 students in and Engrg college. Students like Rancho who try to change the teaching system are very rare rather I have never heard of such a happening. The messages that I really liked were that we need to live life in the present tense and not worry much about the future and also that if we take up a profession that we are passionate about then you will never feel that you are working (but alas not many are able to find that passionate thing). I know numerous self help books say the same thing but still whenever that message hits you on the screen it jiggles you but the next day you are back at square one. Thats it guys.

Enjoy the movies if you haven't.

The Rising Sun

I will watch the Rising Sun with You because you asked me to, even though I know watching it rise every day henceforth is going to kill me.

Hundred Deaths

I will not say that I will die for you, but every day living a day seems like dying a hundred deaths.

Wake Up Sid

Coming back to blogging scene after a long time. I watched the movie yesterday. I won't say it was fantastic movie but being a Bombaitte I could relate to certain parts of the movie.

The best dialogue in movie was Mumbai shehar kabhi sota nahin hain. Got to see the Queen's necklace - marine drive after a long time made me feel a lil nostalgic.

The story of a young 20 year old boy freshly out of college falling for a older female didn't make much of a sense but I guess Konkona Sen is typecasting herself to say that she is best suitable for such movies.

Overall the movie was not the kind that would jiggle but since you can relate to certain movie parts like where Sid has a fight with his parents and then leaving home and then trying to adjust to new circumstance where in you need to clean up your own dirt etc etc...

The wake up call that Sid gets when suddenly thrown out into the rat race is something which will strike a bell with many Bombaittes...I guess Sid was lucky to have found a place to trash when he decided to move out which many of us do not. It also depicts that each one of us has a talent in us which just needs to be recognized - I liked this message.

To this I would like to add - If you are good at something never ever do it for free.

I know this review was quite rusty but bear with me I am starting to write after a long time now.
Will get better...

Runaway Bride - Quote

Ike Graham: [on the perfect proposal] Look, I guarantee there'll be tough times. I guarantee that at some point, one or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know, in my heart, you're the only one for me.

Can it get perfecterrrr that this; wonder when I would be saying something like that or have I already said something like that.

'09 New Year and Events

Its been a month and half and I am posting my first blog of the year now. Well you this new year has been quite eventful. FIrst event was that I got drunk to the extent that I couldn't stand on y feet and could barely keep my mouth closed (for the first time) when the clock struck 12 - not that I was talking a lot but because I was vomitting out a lot. But I held still ha ha ! thats drunkard's cliche.

The second event being went back to India for my sister's wedding ... had a nice time there but alas could find no good looking girls... yea wat a pity!!! But I did a lotta shopping and realised that my perspective towards shopping had changed a lot and enjoyed shopping. But also got a fad credit card bill of around 28k.

Yea. My sis wedding went through without any hassles. Only thing was that I had nothing much to do, everything seemed to be well planned and fell into place except for a few hiccups here and there. Irony of the whole India trip is that when I was in Denver I missed home and when I was at home I missed Denver.

I came back on 25th Jan and then back to work. The IBM rolloout didn't seem to happen as expected and with the economy being down this is no good news for us (ppl working for the next roll out). Already one of us has been asked to go back and everyone's apprehensive about whose going to get the ticket next.

Now I got to go for a party of ABhi's (one of my many bosses) son.

There is one more thing but will post about that when the time's right.
